Reels, Posts or Stories? Choose a Format for the Job

Choose the communication task first

A format is useful when it helps somebody understand or do something. It is not automatically a growth strategy. We have not tested a universal reach advantage, ideal weekly ratio or current maximum duration across every Instagram account.

These are editorial suggestions, not promises about distribution. Meta describes different ranking systems and signals; a format label alone does not predict the response to your particular content.

Adapt the same project thoughtfully

Suppose you recorded a short repair demonstration. The full sequence may work as a video, a labeled before-and-after comparison may work as a post, and a workshop reminder may work as a Story. Each version should answer its own question rather than repeat the identical clip with a new caption.

Check framing and text readability on the intended screen. Do not crop away an essential action merely to fill a vertical layout. If a viewer needs a written measurement or link, preserve that information in an appropriate accompanying form.

Keep a reusable source package

• The original recording and editable project.
• A clean final export and any separate captions.
• Still images prepared from material you own.
• Permission records for collaborators, music and supplied assets.
• A note identifying which version was published where.
